Pier Stand photos!
Pier Stands, or Brow Stands as called by the Navy and large ocean
going vessels, are raised platforms with steps that support one
end of a gangway, brow or boarding ramp. If the deck of the boat
or ship is significantly above the dock then Pier Stands can reduce
that distance and make loading and unloading of the ship much easier.
As with everything else, they come in many different sizes.
A small Pier Stand for a private boat may
only be 2 feet high with an attached ramp of only 2 feet by 2 feet.
A large Pier Stand may be a 6 foot by 6 foot platform raised 6 feet
above the dock with 8 or more steps.
Whether it’s for a cruise ship or
a 20 foot skiff, they all accomplish the same goal. A Pier Stand
makes it easier to get on your boat when the boat gunnels are well
above the dock.
